Parvovirus in Puppies and Dogs
What is Parvo?
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus caused by the canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) virus that is spread through contaminated feces. It attacks the gastrointestinal tract and immune system of puppies and dogs. If not diagnosed early, it can be life-threatening.
How It Spreads
- It can be spread amongst dogs, coyotes, wolves, skunks, and foxes.
- Dogs can get it by sniffing, licking, eating feces, or playing with contaminated objects.
Signs & Symptoms
- Bloody diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite

What is Avian Influenza?
More commonly known as Bird Flu, Avian Influenza is caused by a Type A influenza virus. The current strain, H5N1, raises concern because it spreads more easily than previous strains, which can result in a larger impact.
Who can bird flu impact?
Birds are the primary host, but the virus can be spread to other mammals, including cats, cattle, wildlife, and even humans.
How is bird flu spread?
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), it is usually spread by contact with infected birds, bird droppings, and contaminated environments. Cats have also been infected after ingesting raw milk and raw meat from raw food diets.
